Divisive politicking by the Twin Lakes HOA board

This comment was offered as a response to one my earlier posts on this issue. I’m reprinting this email anonymously to further the discussion.

“Can you think of anything that is more divisive than the boards plan for all of us? The country club and its members will see the board as heroes, brave and wise. All the members of the country club will get to vote on the increase in dues even though none of them will be paying the increase.  The increase only falls on non-members because the members have voted a rebate for themselves to be paid with our money.

What kind of board would allow a vote affecting the majority of members to be approved by a minority of members many of which will not even have to pay for the increase they vote for. I went to the last board meeting and no mention was made of another special meeting was mentioned or voted on.  That means a secret meeting was held or no meeting was held and several members decided to have a special membership meeting without holding a board meeting.  The rest of the board members probably just letting it go forward so as not to cause any problems for themselves.  What ever happened to bring about this vote next month violates the rules of our association.

Am I an angry member?

You bet I am”

SPRING, Texas—A Spring homeowner is suing his homeowners’ association and the developer, over a $60 per year fee that he says is being used to maintain a golf course that’s 41 miles away.David Manchester says the developer of Legends Ranch tacked on a fee that benefits the Houston National Golf Course, which is in an entirely different county.“I’m not a golfer,” Manchester said. “It’s frustrating to me, because there are people who are struggling to stay in their homes, people who are struggling for jobs and it’s tough on people.”Manchester has retained an attorney, Jason Gibson, who plans to file a class-action suit in Harris County Civil Court.“People have been taken advantage of,” Gibson said. “Homeowners have been swindled, and they want to know where their money went, and they want their money back.”Roy Hailey, an attorney for the property owners’ association, said he will comment after he sees the class-action suit. Hailey said he has not yet seen the complaints or a demand letter from Gibson.According to a draft of the suit, Manchester claims that the developer placed people loyal to him on the property association’s board, and formed a 3-2 majority. Therefore, Manchester said, homeowners had no way to dispute the $60 golf course fee, or influence other decisions related to the development’s budget.“There are some areas of the budget that just don’t pass the smell test,” Manchester said. “This money is supposed to be used for maintenance and upkeep of the community.”

Twin Lakes can become a force?

Mr. McMullen says

via Twin Lakes can become a force Federal Way letters – Federal Way Mirror.

Mr. McMullen says “It’s interesting to note that various homeowners from Marine Hills, North Shire and West Campus have remarked, based on their experience, what a remarkable deal the amenities program is for the Twin Lakes homeowners. They cannot understand why anybody would be against the program.” Most of the favorable comments I’ve heard about the so-called “amenities program” proposed by the TLHOA board are from people that don’t live in Twin Lakes. That is, they are not paying for it.

The comparison between the Northshore case and the situation Twin Lakes is an apples-and-oranges comparison. Northshore is a public facility. Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club is not. There is no way I should have to pay to bail out a private club that I do not use. Federal Way owns and operates a beautiful new community center. That’s where my dollars will go, if I’m given a choice. This latest hare-brained scheme by the Twin Lakes elite is designed to make sure I don’t have that choice.

What other private club do you know of that would FORCE you to join?
